Individual Lending

Mrs. Shobhana Pathan, a divorcee, comes from a very poor family living in Nagpur slum. She has three daughters to support. Twelve months ago she was in a very poor and distressed condition, having no money, no support and no job.

She was working as a maidservant and was earning only Rs. 300/- ($36) per month. Our Community Development Staff noticed her plight and helped her to establish small counter in her house to sell popcorn, sweets, chocolates and other food items with the loan of Rs. 3000/- ($60) from CDS which she refunded later. Her new venture raised her income to Rs. 1500/- ($30) per month approximately. CDS sanctioned her another loan of Rs. 5000/- ($100) to expand her business which she utilized to add grocery and some general items to her shop. The per day sale of her shop has gone up to Rs. 500/-, the net profit being Rs. 100/- per day. Mrs. Shobhana Pathan as seen in the picture is full of smile and is seen confident to sustain herself and her three daughters. Like her there are many whom CDS has helped to establish and start a new life full of hope.
